Melissa Causey, 11 Months After Ross Procedure Surgery… Feeling Great!!!
By Adam Pick on July 22, 2008
There is nothing better than hearing from one of my readers after their open-heart surgery recovery is complete.
Recently, I received a very nice note from Melissa Causey. As you might remember, Melissa had a Ross operation in 2006 by Dr. William Ryan in Texas. She attached a recent picture that I have posted below.
FYI, here is a picture of Melissa just three days after her Ross Procedure in the hospital.
Melissa writes to me, “Dear Adam – I’m now 11 months post-op from my Ross Procedure and feeling great! My Uncle Ted gave me your heart valve surgery book a month before my surgery, and it is one of the best gifts I could have ever received. Your book really helped to prepare me as well as my family for my surgery and recovery. After reading your book, I was also able to communicate more effectively with my surgeon and cardiologist.”
Thanks so much for sharing Melissa! I really appreciate it!
Keep on tickin!
Adam

Hi Melissa, I have an appt. with Dr. Ryan on Wednesday to discuss the Ross Procedure. My husband and I met with Dr, Oswalt in Austin and he believed I was a good candidate for this type of surgery. I have a stenotic aortic valve (bicuspid) but am asymtomatic. I would love to hear you thoughts on Dr. Ryan, the surgery and recovery. I understand you are 6 years post surgery and wondered how you are doing. I hope very well! This blog has been so very helpful! Look forward to corresponding with you. Mollie Renforth |

Hi, Melissa, I just met Dr. Ryan yesterday. I have severe aortic stenosis (bicuspid aortic valve) but no symptoms. I am 50 now and Dr. Ryan said that I am a “perfect” candidate for Ross. Can you share your experience with me? Specifically, did you have to take beta blocker post op? If yes, what did you take? How long were you in the hospital? How long was your recovery (to the point you can do daily stuff, not to the point that you can run a marathon)? Thanks, |
