Dr. Vamsee Yganti
, Interventional Cardiologist
Salt Lake City, UT
- Unregistered Interventional Cardiologist
"Dr Yganti is the interventional cardiologist who performed a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure - installing a bovine pericardial tissue valve in my aorta.
My previous tissue valve was deployed to repair a congenital bicuspid aortic valve which was leaking. The Medtronic Porcine Freestyle Valve had developed a severe leak after 13 1/2 years. The failed valve had been installed via open-heart surgery to permit a grafting of Dacron tube to repair an aneurysm which had formed.
Anyway, there were MANY complications and conditions which occurred post OHS (cognitive, emotional, irregular heartbeat, and atrial fibrillation to name a few). I was leery of going through another open heart surgery to be frank.
Fortunately, the tests leading up to the TAVR indicated that I was a candidate for the TAVR. Dr. Vamseev M. Yganti did an AMAZING job of explaining the situation, the risks, the TAVR procedure, and the likelihood of success, as well as the alternatives should something unexpected develop.
Within hours I was in surgery and within a day I was discharged. INCREDIBLE!!!!!
I was experiencing heart failure when my cardiologist (Dr. Adam Elhaddi) sent me for the urgent procedure at St. Mark’s Hospital. Dr. David Affleck was very helpful and kind in attending my surgery and early after care. I am grateful to Dr. Hibbard (anesthesia) and the entire crew who saved my life.
It’s been a month since the surgery and I am resuming my active lifestyle - walking, cycling, hiking, and (soon) skiing. Compared to the days leading up to the TAVR, I am feeling TERRIFIC!!!"
