Since I first listened to “Under A Blood Red Sky” on a cassette tape in 1985, U2 has been my favorite rock band and Bono has been one of my heroes. Over the years, I have learned a lot about Bono and U2 as my love for their music and altruistic spirit inspired me to see the band play live more than 20 times.
For that reason, I was surprised to learn on the opening page of Bono’s new book, Surrender, that Bono had an urgent, life-saving heart valve and aortic aneurysm surgery in 2016. Bono’s complex operation was performed by Dr. David Adams, a leading cardiac surgeon at The Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City and a long-time friend of our community.
So, to check-in on Bono’s heart and to experience the communal joy of a live U2 concert, I jumped in a car destined for Las Vegas where U2 launched the first-ever residency at the MSG Sphere. Here are the highlights of Bono’s patient success story as witnessed inside the Sphere…
On behalf of U2 fans all over the world, many thanks to Dr. David Adams and The Mount Sinai Hospital team for taking such great care of Bono!
To Bono, as we say to all of our patient success stories here at HeartValveSurgery.com… Keep on tickin!

Adam Pick: Hi, everybody, it’s Adam with HeartValveSurgery.com. This is a special patient update about Bono. As you may know, U2’s lead singer revealed in the first chapter of his new book, Surrender, that Bono underwent an urgent aortic valve replacement and aneurysm surgery in 2016 at Mount Sinai Health in New York City, New York. Bono’s surgery was performed by none other than Dr. David Adams, who’s a longtime supporter and friend of the heartvalvesurgery.com community.
I have been very lucky to go on medical missions with Dr. Adams in places like the Dominican Republic. You should know that U2 is my favorite band, and many patients in our community have had questions about Bono’s heart. To check in on Bono, the HeartValveSurgery.com team traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada, where U2 had kicked off the first ever residency at the new MSG Sphere. While we were unable to get a comment from Bono about his heart, we were able to collect some evidence that Bono’s heart is doing pretty darn good.
As I said, Bono’s heart is doing pretty good or Larry David might say it like –
Larry David: Pretty good, that was insane.
Adam Pick: On behalf of heart valve patients and U2 fans all over the world, many thanks to Dr. David Adams at Mount Sinai Health for taking such great care of Bono. To Bono, as we say to all of our patient success stories here at HeartValveSurgery.com… Keep on tickin!
