Congenital heart defects (CHDs) are the most prevalent type of birth disorder affecting nearly one percent (1%) of newborns annually in the United States. While ventricular septal defect (VSD) is the most frequent congenital heart abnormality diagnosed, many babies are born with and/or develop various types of heart valve disease – including bicuspid aortic valves and Tetralogy of Fallot.
