About Me (In My Own Words)
My valve story started way before I knew it was a story. 2-3 years ago I would have situations when I would get winded, whether it be when golfing, to short runs, and even climbing the 19 stairs at home. I thought I was out of shape but always commented on how others were able to do what I couldn’t sustain. So I started walking 3 milked a day 5 days a week in 2022 in addition to whatever other walking I did I during the day. Still, nothing really changed. Then, one day in September 2023 I had done my walk, worked out at the gym, and was doing errands when I felt slurry in the right corner of my mouth. I got home and told my wife about it and said “I think I may have had a slight stroke.” So I took my self to the hospital and went to Urgent Care, but as soon as I said “stroke” they moved mine to Emergency and admitted me. As it turned out, I did have a TIA as they call it. My hospital, Kaiser Permanente Southern California Fontana did a number of tests on me and it was during these tests that they found my aortic stenosis. It became obvious that I needed to have opone heart surgery done to replace the valve. That surgery was done just over a week ago as I write my story.
