Do You Have A Diagram Of The Cardiac Conduction System?

By Adam Pick on August 23, 2007

The heart is an amazing muscle. For reasons described on this previous blog, “The Anatomy And Heart Function“, I am constantly marveling at all the complex elements that makes the heart operate. Interestingly enough…

Electricity has a lot to do with the actual starts and stops (aka contractions) in the cardiac conduction system. That said I thought you might like to see a diagram of cardiac conduction system.

I could go on and do my best to scientifically explain the cardiac conduction system illustration above. However, it’s the Internet age. So, I’m going to let the American Heart Association do that for me. Here is a link to an article all about the “Diagram of Cardiac Conduction System”.

It’s actually a very, very, very interesting article!

Keep on tickin!

Dear Adam,
I just completed your book. I had minimally invasive surgery back in 2006 to replace my aortic valve. They placed a 19mm Mechanical valve in at that time.( I now read literature that states that 19mm valves should only be placed in people that are tiny and live a sedentary lifestyle.) Now think I made a huge mistake in selecting the minimally invasive approach because I am only 50 and my lifestyle is anything but sedentary!
I have now switched surgeons so that I have access to input from Dr.Starnes. They will be going in to do a root enlargement and to remove the obstruction that has developed in the LVOT since the first surgery.
I would like to hear about redo surgeries from your readers.I would like to specifically hear from anyone who has had a mechanical valve removed.
I am also thinking of using a porcine valve this time to make any subsequent redo less complicated. ( Unbelievably, my surgeon just went in to do a 7th redo on a patient!)
Would it be possible to post my question so that I can learn from your readers?
Laurie Collins
