I guess you could say that I’m somewhat addicted to our Peloton bike.
In this community… I’m not alone. After sharing this post, I heard from many of you about our mutual love for this fitness craze.
So you know… Earlier today, I reached my 500th bike ride as I finished a 60-day exercise challenge. For this special ride, I picked a live Tabata session instructed by the one-and-only Robin Arzon, a former attorney and non-athlete who is now the Vice President of Fitness Programming for Peloton.
About midway through the ride, Robin happened to notice my Peloton name of “HeartValveGuy” as an online biker in her digital dashboard. I was then surprised to see Robin look into the camera and say:
“HeartValveGuy???
HeartValveGuy!!!
Does that mean you have a heart valve?
You are amazing!
That makes you bionic!
Yah!”
Here’s the video of Robin sending her empowering message to heart disease patients all over the world:
I share Robin’s wonderful video with you for a couple important reasons.
First… It was fun!!!!
Even though I was 2,700 miles away from Robin in Los Angeles, it felt like I was right next to her in the New York City Peloton studio. Very, very, very neat.
Second… As you may have learned by now, I will do just about anything to drive awareness to heart valve disease which is a fatal disorder that is often mis-diagnosed and significantly under-treated. According to the latest research, 30% of Americans over the age of 65 do not know what heart valve disease is and up to 25,000 people die each year from valvular disorders including aortic stenosis and mitral regurgitation.
The final reason I share this video with you is that I don’t think Robin was actually speaking to me.
Instead, I think Robin was really speaking to the idea of a person… a courageous person… a heart surgery patient… who is willing to face extreme physical discomfort and mental stress to ultimately enhance and transform their lives for the better. (She is all about empowerment and that is why I love her classes.)
That said… I think Robin was speaking to all of the HeartValveGuys and HeartValveGirls out there. So, on Robin’s behalf, I say to you, “You are amazing!!!!!! You are bionic!!!!!!”
Me (aka HeartValveGuy on Peloton) After 500 Rides
Many thanks to Robin and the entire Peloton team for all you are doing to empower us with your bike, your treadmill and your inspirational programming. You too are amazing!!!
