Adam Says, “Thank You! New Website Features Almost Here!”

By Adam Pick on October 22, 2009

Hey everybody,

When I launched this website years ago, I had two fundamental goals:

  • My first goal was to educate patients and caregivers about the realities of heart valve surgery.
  • My second goal was to empower you to make the right choices given your diagnosis and prognosis.

Over time, these goals have turned into one of my life passions. That passion has churned out a lot of blogs over the years. Today, this website has over 2,200 pages of free content to help you through heart valve surgery. As a result, my friends have started calling me the Dear Abby of heart valve surgery.

While running this website takes a lot of time and energy (considering I have a full-time job), I absolutely love it! This work has provided me with the best human nourishment I have ever experienced. Thanks, once again, to you for providing this unique opportunity! Without you, none of this would be possible.

As this website began to grow, I started to receive notes, emails and phone calls about new ways to improve this online community. As you may recall, it was your feedback that served as the genesis of the Heart Valve Surgeon Locator (Beta).

The more I talked with the patient and caregiver community, the more I learned how technology (specifically Internet applications) could improve your surgical experience, from diagnosis through recovery. I started to get really, really, really excited about new possibilities for helping patients and their caregivers – beyond the current website.

So… Not to be a tease… But, in the very near future, I will be posting an exciting new application and several additional features to support you through the heart valve surgery experience. FYI, I have been working on these website additions for the past seven months.

Also, I will be making a significant announcement, in the next few months, that will illustrate just how thankful I am for this community and the medical miracle known as heart valve surgery.

Again, thanks for your belief in me and your ongoing support of each other.

Keep on tickin!
Adam

Your son is so cute – and you are incredible for keeping us all knowledgeable. While i already had my valve replaced I know somewhere in the future is another go round for me. Thank you for all you do.

I know it can’t be easy to balance a family, full time job & this site. But even now 8 weeks after surgery, I still check the blog daily & look for new posts. Your efforts are not wasted!

I’m trying to put this whole thing behind me & get on with life the way it should be for a 32 year old & coming back to this site is definitely a constant reminder of what I’ve been through, but I can’t help it.

Adam, Today it is three weeks after my arortic valve replacement. I ordered your book one month before surgery and also order the guard that covers the incision afterward that was recommended on your website. Just want to let you know how much help that your website has been. I am 49 year old mom of one 11 year old. Widowed and have very close family that has helped extensively. The information provided by your books and by your website helped to keep me calm during, before and after the surgery. This is a huge accomplishment when a person is talking about such major surgery. Just have to say Thank you. Also mentioned this to my surgeons office and they are going to do some recommending of this to their up and coming patients. My Surgeon was one of the best as far as I am concerned. Claudia
