Hi Cherie, Great to meet you and welcome to our community. Like you, my aortic valve progressed somewhat quickly from moderate to severe ( 2 years) but not as fast as yours. Dang. Anyways, I started this website to help patients get educated and empowered throughout the surgical process. I hope the information and the people here will help you. If you need anything, please let me know. Keep on tickin! Adam

Cherie Farmer Allred Thank u...it has snuck up on me a little too fast...I'm wrestling with a decision between two surgeons...both at my local hospital...one has been a cardiothorasic surgeon for 4 yrs but specializes in ministernotomies and the other has practiced for 20 plus years and valves are he is the "valve" dr. Duh huh ... Right?? But my chicken nature seems to think the mini sternotomy might let this golfer heal easier and quicker....sigh....

Eleanor R Hi, Cherie. That was the claim that my surgeon made for the mini sternotomy, that as a smaller incision it would heal sooner, meaning I could drive at 4 weeks instead of 6, etc. Nice little incision, still involved chest muscles so limited arm movements for a while, but healed quickly and perfectly seems like. I did not drive at 4 weeks though, as I was still cautious of too much movement on the sternum. All went well and now almost 4 months later I can do anything I want, certainly better than I was before I heard the words aortic stenosis. My surgeon has been doing this for probably 30 years, but he likes to keep up with the latest techniques and latest valves, hence the mini rather than the full sternotomy. However, he did reserve that option if it turned out that I needed additional work, which fortunately I did not. I wish you the very best. Eleanor
