Dan Edle  Barry... I have an acquaintance who has had 3 valve surgeries over the last 6+ years.... and had them all at Penn. 2 of his surgeries were minimally invasive (the surgeon who did these left Penn and went to Stanford). The 3rd surgery he had was open heart as 2 valves had to be replaced... he told me both minimally invasive, and open heart hurt about the same. Anyway... he also told me that the housekeeping at Penn (inter city environment) wasn't the best, and he developed infections twice. I had shoulder surgery a couple of years ago at Methodist in Philly, and it's housekeeping was Poor too. Lehigh Valley Hospital is Very, Very clean!! And I found it's staff is very caring.... Dr. Singer is the Best has he demands perfection from not only himself, but from his staff too. He performs most of his surgeries with the open heart method, which I had on 3/04/2016. I was in the hospital for 6 days, an extra day because I developed AFib (40% do after this surgery). It has now been 9 weeks post surgery, and I feel very good! I met with Dr. Singer 5 weeks after surgery... my mitral valve was repaired "perfectly" in his words, and I was told I do not have to meet with him again. My cardiologist also told me after week 7 that I do not have to see him for 9 month. I was able to get off blood thinners at that time... Even though my cardiologist didn't think I needed it, I am now in Cardiac Rehab and doing well working up a sweat during my hour workout. I wanted to go for peace of mind, but I am almost back to normal, and have started cutting my grass again last week using a "push" mower with rear bag.

Anyway... Dr. Singer is starting to get "National Recognition" for his success with valve surgeries, and my experience with him and with everyone at Lehigh Valley hospital was a Good One!
