Danielle Smith Hi Leslie, my spine issues are linked to Marfan syndrome. Scoliosis is very common symptom in Marfan sufferers. My spinal surgery was 21 years ago - it wasn't fun at the time and the recovery was long but it was well worth having. I've have had very few complications since.
My spine did not impact on my OHS and procedure was the same. My advice to you is when you have your surgery ensure that all the medical staff are aware of you spinal issues. It's easily overlooked when you're on a Cardiac ward and their priority is your heart. Ensure that the bed and chairs support your back correctly. This will make getting back on your feet quicker. The quicker you get back on your feet post surgery the better.
I've read your journal post - you have had a tough time of it. A positive outlook goes a long way when dealing with scary prospect of surgery. I found the waiting to be the hardest. Much like you I had a huge amount of anxiety. The anxiety symptoms for me were worse than the leaky MV symptoms. I hope that you manage to get both the hernia and heart surgery soon so you get onto the recovery side of this journey. You can do it!
This forum is a great source of knowledge and support and although you are by yourself in Budapest you will always find a ear to listen and support here. Dx
Good luck, Danielle.
Hope your surgery does not get cancelled as it is very stressful to prepare to have surgery and then not have it.
