No, I did not have a valve sparing procedure. My valve was bicuspid, and the surgeon believed it was worth replacing it while I had the aneurysm fixed. I initially thought I might have a valve sparing procedure, but 2 surgeons thought otherwise. I think it is a good option if you are younger and willing to go to a center of excellence in aortic valve repair.

Hi Deepak. I noticed the same thing with my heart after my first OHS in 2010 & my surgeon explained it much the same as Marie has in her post to your guestbook. It either gets better or I just adjusted to the way it is as it became less noticeable over time. Now I've had another OHS this year & I'm noticing the same stronger heartbeat so I know now to just wait it out. Best wishes!
Deepak Khanka Thanks Joy your comments adds value to the reassurance. Best of luck for speedy recovery

Yes. I felt the same stronger heartbeat since my surgery, as have many people on this website. If I take a deep breath in, I can feel more heartbeat even stronger. If I breathe very shallow, my heartbeat is not as noticeable. I think it is due to the fact that the heart is now functioning better, and we have lost some of the insulation and muffling provided by the sac around the heart (pericardium). Hope that answers your questions.

Marie Myers I think it does, but I am not positive. I still notice the strong heartbeats with a deep breath even now at 2 1/2 years past my surgery. We may just get more used to the new feeling.
