Domenick Panzarella Hi Ana. I realize that I have a long recovery ahead, but it seems to be going well. Ive been home for one week today, and the difference has been huge. The surgery went well, and I was told there no complications. My surgeon and his team did an excellent job. My heart is beating strong, the incision is healing quickly and looking good. All of my edema/swelling has gone down, most of the pain is gone except an occasional minor heart/chest pain, and in my right shoulder/back of my neck. This was directly related to the tube in my neck. Im working on some muscle stiffness related to that. Also working on getting my posture back to where its natural. My lung capacity is slowly coming back - though it was diminished before the surgery due to the inability to exercise or do much at all. Im able to walk around the house and go up and down stairs. Afternoon naps are required! My appetite is good, and im eating a very balanced and healthy diet. Much like I did before surgery, but more consistent day to day. I think that along with quality sleep, is crucial for recovery. Its also important when you have to take meds like blood thinners.
I was in the ICU for 4 days, and needed blood and electrolytes. Then the step-down for 2 days before being released. The first week was very difficult, honestly. I am trying to put the trauma of that first week behind me though, and just plan on focusing on my day to day, week to week improvements. Ive had a few dizzy spells, and associated vision effects. I hoping this will go away as I have to take less meds. My resting heart rate is higher than im used to - 80's vs 60's, but im told that this will go down as my heart heals. I havent noticed too many arrhythmias or palpitations, but ill leave that up to my cardiologist to better determine at our upcoming appt.
As I progress, or if things change, I will provide updates. But to sum it up for now, generally im feeling good considering what I just went through - thanks to my loving partner who has been helping me through this and taking excellent care of me.
If anyone has any specific questions, I would be happy to help and share what ive experienced.
Happy new year : )

Domenick, I responded very short yesterday as I was having an attack of the trygeminal neuralgia and was in a lot of pain and discomfort. But today I feel much better. I love your post. I’m glad you gave us a good description of what you have been going through. I’m just glad you are in recovery and one day at a time you will get better and have a complete recovery.
