Elaine, Reading your diarybrought me right back to my post op memories. Yes, your bump will go down and your chest will have a normal shape, but I remember feeling sick about it and I know how you feel. It gets so much better, when your energy comes back. Your new wisdom of what’s important is awesome, please listen to it because it is golden!! Jane

Hi Elaine, Great to hear you're doing so well. As for your feelings about your scar, I dunno, maybe it's a girl thing. I'm a guy and I LOVE my scar. Kind of like being proud of a fencing wound. When I look at it, it reminds me not of being "injured," but of the incredible miracle of current heart surgery. I'm so grateful for that and my scar says to me, "Always remember the blessing you were given." Maybe that will help you, maybe it won't. But just thought I'd try. All my best, Artie

Welcome Elaine.
Wishing you a successful surgery.

Elaine Phares I can choose. I really don't want to go with the mechanical valve since it comes with a lifetime of Coumadin, checking blood every two weeks, and the chances of clotting are much higher. That is what happened to my dad. I have read up on the types of tissue valves and will probably go with the bovine. I may have to have it replaced again in about 15-20 years, but by then, I am thinking they would do the groin replacement. Surgeon did say if he can't get a great valve fit that he will have to put in the mechanical, but that would be last choice.

Elaine Phares Hi Gina. It is an adjustment, isn't it? For me living in a fool's paradise of thinking 2018 was going to be amazing, healthy year...then, wham! However, we are lucky to live in this time. 60 years ago, I would not be so lucky.
