Best of luck to you tomorrow. It will probably be a few days or a week before you read this. I have experience with the Heart Hugger, and I can tell you that it is phenomenal. I first got the pillow like everybody else and then a few days in they offered me the Heart Hugger. In my case, I don't think that they knew everything about when they gave it to me. I would recommend the website for more detailed instruction. I believe that the labels go on the outside. I felt after about 3 and half weeks that I didn't need it anymore, but I am glad I had it when I did.

Rose Madura I was given a heart hugger at the hospital and I highly recommend it.

Hi Lizbeth, thinking of you as you prepare for surgery in a couple of days. I had mitral and tricuspid repairs and a Maze procedure at the Cleveland Clinic at the end of January with Dr. Gillinov. My surgery was not nearly as difficult as I had anticipated, and my recovery was routine. At 6 months, I'm feeling completely back to normal. My care at CC was excellent from start to finish. I had a full sternotomy incision with very little sternum pain afterward. I never really needed a pillow for support when coughing. I've heard Dr. Johnson is one of the best - you're in good hands! Wishing you a successful surgery and a quick recovery.

Hi Lizbeth. Welcome to the site. You will be in good hands at the Cleveland Clinic. I saw one of your posts asking about a heart hugger. I was given one at the hospital after my surgery and would highly recommend it. Regarding pain, I honestly didn't have a lot of pain with the sternum. Most of my pain was shoulder pain from how you are positioned on the operating table. Also some nerve pain where the main line went through but I didn't need narcotics for too long and was able to make the switch to Tylenol which worked well without the side effects. Best wishes for a successful surgery. The odds are in your favor. Trust the doctors and follow their instructions. Please keep us updated. Godspeed.

LA Heatley Thanks for your very kind words. I hope my shoulders do well but I'm very worried about my lower back. I think I'm going to buy a Heart Hugger vest. It sounds like such a good idea and will let me have more control of keeping pressure on my sternum when I cough, breath deeply or sneeze. I've contacted them to see it they include the neoprene wraps to go around the handles that I saw on the Herculife site. I hope you've done amazingly well after your surgery.
