I have a st. Jude's mitral valve and take daily warfarin. You are going to be okay , try not to worry .
After you have your surgery , the pharmacist will talk to you about taking the anticoagulant ( warfarin ) . There is lots of information online about it too . Read the most recent articles / information . Lots of things have changed over the years . The main thing is to just know which foods have the most and which have the least vitamin k .
The reason you will be taking the anticoagulant ( warfarin ) is to stop a clot forming on the valve . The valve will be helping to keep you alive .
It will just become part of your life and part of your routine . You will be alive and "still there" for your family and friends so that is a very wonderful thing . You will go on living your life and see your children grow up

My surgery was on 24/8/20 at Leeds general infirmary .
I was a couple of years older than you are now .
I have sons that are now 19 and 23 and I got out of hospital in time for my youngest sons 18th birthday  . I had initially put my symptoms down to the perimenopause , eventually I became much worse . Thank fully I got the surgery I needed , many people didn ‘t due to covid / lockdown and it ‘s affects . Whatever you decide will be right for you . 
Neither choice is perfect , but life and living is good .

I had a severely leaking mitral valve , I had a st. Jude's mitral valve to replace the valve .
It will ( hopefully ) last last me my lifetime .
I was treated as an emergency so I'm happy to be alive and every day is a bonus .
