Martin,
I had Dr. Stelzer and Dr. Varghese perform my Ross on April 1, 2019. You are in the best of hands. The ICU and step down unit teams are phenomenal as well.
Being in shape going in definitely helped, but you are still starting at 0 on the way out, so being patient during the recovery is key.
Feel free to reach out if you have any specific questions.
Best,
Anthony

Yes! Exercise before surgery can help a person a lot after surgery. Especially if you learn about "sternal precautions" (from your doctor or YouTubes -- whatever). I wish I had practiced getting up and sitting down, getting in and getting out of bed without the assistance of my arms -- if I had, my recovery would have been easier.
In any case, I hope you have an easy time of it and get back to a full life soon and may you have strength and patience in the meantime.
