Hi Mike
I am 71, had a triple bypass surgery in December 2012. Year later my Cardiologist discovered that I have mild Aortic and Mitral stenosis. Since then I had regular Echocardiogram & clinical review. Now my Aortic Stenosis has become boarder line severe and Mitral Stenosis moderate. I have been advised that in due course I should have redo surgery for both valves replacement. Recently I had CT scan and end of November 2016 am having coronary angiogram and then review appointment to decide way forward
Post Bypass surgery, I had a very difficult recovery in intensive care and suffered from frightening Hallucinations. Hence I am anxious to have another open heart surgery !
I welcome your advice and input from your personal experience

mike politowicz I say it is important to have a close family member by your side for the first three days. Be comfortable with your surgeon and team. Did they look to see if you are eligible for the TAVR which is the valve they deliver through a cardiac cath? Your surgeon has to be certified to do the procedure.

Hi Mike. I am 50 and went with a tissue aortic valve. I am a heavy duty mechanic that works in remote places and I also didn't want to do the warfin thing. I figured with technology that in 10-15 years they should have something better figured out. That's just the way I thought it out. Good luck and God bless.
mike politowicz Thanks Ted I had the same thoughts and decision.

Heart Valve . . Mike, I have had a mechanical mitral valve (St. Jude's) for 29 years. Four months ago I got a second mechanical valve (ATS AP) for my aortic valve. I was 46 years old when I had my first heart surgery. I was cautioned against getting a tissue valve because it would only lasts 10+ years. I am 75 now and had complete open heart surgery this time, too. I recovered so fast and was out fly fishing with my husband after 5 weeks of recovery. I ski, ride my bike, and hike, and I fly fish with Bruce. We like competitive duplicate bridge, travel, and reading . . . and we always travel with our cribbage board.
Comment: Coumadin has not been an issue. I have my own little device and run a blood test every two weeks. I put a drop of blood on a little strip, probably much like a diabetic does. My valve problems are a result of having rheumatic fever when I was 16.
