Hi Rob! In February I had an Inspiris Resilia placed to treat stenosis of my previously undiagnosed bicuspid aortic valve. I have to say, I was amazed at how well it all went. Home four days after surgery, only wanted/needed pain medication for the first few days. Honestly, the anticipation was the worst part. You will do great - and notice a difference very quickly! )Oh - I had just turned 50 but very out of shape, and still did fantastic!)

Just read your story and wish you well. I similarly had a bicuspid, was feeling great and didn't find out until I was 47. I also saw it as a blessing that I didn't know surgery would be needed all those years. You'll be up and feeling good surprisingly quickly. Good luck!

At your age and clearly in good health, you should do great. I did not tell many people before surgery as I did not want to think or talk about it. Rough surgery but ultimately I feel like new. Rest and as you are able, walk. You will do superbly.

It's too bad you have to pay out of pocket for this. Your story sound similar to mine except I knee from the time I was 7 that I would need surgery some day. I had it 3 years ago at age 59. I got an Edwards Magna tissue valve. Your life is valuable, of course, so do your due diligence and get a second opinion if you feel you need to. Best wishes. Keep us posted.

My goodness. When I read your story it was like reading my own. It's been over 20 years since my operation. I too had to make a choice which valve to have placed but it was not decided upon till the admission. I was in the same room as a 40 year old gentleman who had valve replacement the year before. It was already leaking and he was replacing it again with an artificial valve. I decided then to go artificial.
Twenty one years have passed and I have not regretted that spur of the moment decision. Okay, I have replaced one daily medicine for a blood thinner and once the blood level settles, a monthly blood test which I do myself at home. I don't even really hear the clicks though they were audible in the beginning.
I wish you well for your procedure. I hope you benefit as much as I have. Best wishes. Henk Verryt.

Rob Powell Thanks Henk for taking the time to write - Its not been an easy decision as you can imagine, but the Inspiris seems to have very high results as a valve, so I am willing to take a risk of a re-op in the furture. In for a penny in for a pound as they say!
