Hi Sheila, thanks for responding on my journal about the double valve replacement. I didn't know they could do bovine valves for both the aortic and mitral! It's not an option for me at this time unfortunately because it would just mean another surgery for me when I'm in my 50s. I've already had the aortic replaced with a bovine valve 10 1/2 years ago so the hope is that this will be my final surgery. I'm glad to hear you are doing ok, though I'm sure it's a long road to full recovery. Wishing you well and thanks again!

Sheila Harrison Hi Kate I am happy to hear your bovine valves lasted 10 years but, so Sorry it means surgery again. It has been a long six months I have made steady progress but hit a few bumps along the way. I choose bovine over mechanical because I didn't want to start on Coumadin just yet? I am 56 and felt I would be better off for now. This website has been a blessing I have learned so much and spoken to some great people. I hope all goes well for you and remember waiting is the worst part! Hang in there!

Kate Watson I sure don't want to be on coumadin either but the idea of having surgery again in my 50s is enough reason for me to do it now. If it were my first surgery and I were young like you, I'd definitely have chosen two bovine valves too. Yes, there are some great people on here and I've gotten a lot of support and inspiration from all of you. I am looking forward to this being over for sure, though I dread the recovery process!
