Thinking of you, Susan. My prayers are and will be with you throughout your journey. Before long, the hard part will be a memory, and your life will be better for it! And God is with you every step of the way.

Yes, let's definitely keep in touch, Susan. I'm really scared, too, and can only imagine how I'll be when it's a week away ... it's no small thing to experience, and it's understandable. Seems like everyone says the waiting pre-surgery is the hardest part.
If it helps, I was assured by two very experienced doctors at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center--one of them an excellent cardiologist and the other, head of anesthesiology in the critical care medicine department--- that mitral valve surgery is pretty much "low risk," as heart surgery goes, and has always been the most extensively done valve surgery. (I've worked for the latter doctor, long distance, for decades, which is how I was able to get their valuable input). Of course, that information can't completely remove the fear, but it is somewhat reassuring to hear the words "low risk" from experienced doctors in relation to the type of surgery we are having!
Just keep envisioning yourself recovering after the surgery ... starting to feel better... getting back to your routine. You will get there! Please know I'll be praying for you daily.

My prayers for your successful surgery with no complications, Susan! I'm facing surgery for mitral valve regurgitation (moderate-to-severe), but have no surgery date set as yet. I completely understand the anxiety you're feeling ... as we all do, and anyone would. The spirit behind that beautiful smile of yours will bring you through this, and all will be well. God is with you every moment, and loves you with an immeasurable love!

Hi Susan. Thanks for reaching out! I was so scared about the surgery and even put off for 2 years. Had mechanical valve surgery replacement all scheduled with pre ops and all. I cancelled couple weeks before and immediately knew I made the right decision when I didn’t even get follow up call from doctor or hospital as to why I cancelled!!! That’s scary!! My surgeon now was kind and caring and though I had an extra long procedure, my recovery (though challenging in many ways) is not nearly the nightmarish scenario I had envisioned. I’m weak and frustrated by small things, like opening water bottles or heavy doors. But showering, dressing, and bathroom trips are way easier than I expected!!!!!! was purchasing button down shirts but find I can pull over my head loose fitting tees as long as they are nit tight and the fabric is soft. Best of luck! Lmk if you have any other concerns. The best is when you know you are in healing mode!!
