Hey Suzanne, I'm no marathon runner, but I did want to encourage you. I had mitral valve repair 7 years ago and I'm about to go have a replacement. Apparently, mine was never going to be a one and done thing because I have a rheumatic valve. Anyway, it did want to tell you that I started doing Taekwondo at 49, after my mitral valve repair. I had no problem keeping up from a heart perspective... I even competed in a 500 person Taekwondo tournament, won 3 medals, and beat a black belt in sparring back in November. I became really stenotic And I've since had to stop but that's really just because I have a rheumatic valve that was bound to calcify. You will absolutely be able to do physical activity afterwards! Do you know about the Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster program by Peggy Huddleston? You can get it on Amazon I think still. A lot of people on this website use it and it helped me because I was absolutely terrified before surgery but after doing the program, that involves a book and a CD, I was totally calm when they wield me in to surgery. I have a friend who also was having very severe anxiety and she did the program as well and was as calm as could be. Just thought I'd mention it if you haven't heard of it. They even have trained health coaches that you can pay a small fee to do a session with before surgery. Wishing you the best of luck! Feel free to contact me if you just want someone to chat with. I met one of my best friends in the world on this site :-). amysminto@gmail.com
