Hi Tim , I had a severely leaking mitral valve . I have a st. Jude's mitral valve and take a daily anticoagulant to stop a clot forming on this amazing piece little valve that is keeping me alive . I didn ‘t / don't want to have open heart surgery again . Hopefully I won't , but nobody knows what is around the next corner . Anne bell from Scotland has has hers for 49 years and she has had a led good life with hers . She ‘s in the Guinness book of records . She was 28 years old when she had the surgery .
Only you can know what to do and weigh up the pros and cons . Ask your surgeon for advice .
I was an emergency patient so didn ‘t have much time to ponder over the choices .
I ‘m just glad to be alive and to have a life to lead

Hey Tim, I know exactly how you feel. I'm going 4 days before you and this is a redo surgery for me. It's perfectly normal to have concerns but the great news is that these surgeons are just going to work as you or I would be and they know their kraft as if God gave it to them directly. You will be in good hands and in a few months we will both look back with a sigh of relief. Breath and relax, you'll be fine.

Tim, glad you posted your story and excited to hear more. There’s nothing to worry about or be scared of. The surgery itself, you will be asleep :) and once you wake up, all your focus will be on recovery. The physical pain you think might be there…. Isn’t.
But, until then, get Adams book, and do all the research you can online too. There are so many good stories on this website too.
you are gonna be just fine! Any questions, just ask! I am 33, and had a ross procedure + ascending hemiarch replaced.

Marie Myers Tim, i had a Bentall with ascending and root aneurysm replacement 5 years ago. I was quite anxious about the whole thing, and couldn’t believe I had to have this surgery! With time, meditation, yoga, and listening to videos on acceptance, I felt better about the whole thing. I knew I would get through it, I just really didn’t want to have to go through it. I was worried about lots of things, and for me, the physical pain was not as bad/scary as I imagined. I was more just uncomfortable and exhausted. But things improved bit by bit, day by day. I started rehab at 3 weeks, and felt well enough to go back to work part time at 8 weeks. It is truly a miracle what can be done to save or extend our lives, and I hope you can find some comfort in your preop wait.

I understand your fear and apprehension. I was just diagnosed with the same condition this spring and am still playing waiting game. There are days I'm ready to have the wait over and days I'm overwhelmed about surgery. I still have days of tears and anxiety. Your feelings are perfectly normal. I have found such support and love in this community. You've reached out to the right people. I have found comfort in becoming more familiar with what to expect during and after surgery here. There are some many success stories. I'll be thinking of you this month and can't wait to hear from you from the recovery side! Keep the faith. You got this!
