Hi Tracy! You are a real survivor and you should be very proud! I am receiving heart surgery in a few weeks to replace my bicuspid valve.I was wondering if you had any thoughts which valve to choose. I am 50/50 between the tissue valve and the mechanical valve.

Hi Tracy,
I'm 3 weeks post-op today and I still get skipped beats, noticing them at night mostly and dr said that would be normal for a little while longer. I was on lasix for 5 days after I got discharged, but no swelling. I hope the water pill is helping you out!

Hi Tracy,
Welcome to the physical and emotional rollercoaster ride that is OHS.
I didn't suffer with water retention myself but there are many that do, and it will go away. Try and be active through the day but make sure that you give your self time in the day to put your feet up and rest. I am now nearly 6 weeks post surgery, and I can tell you ,you will be surprised how much better you will feel in 3 more weeks, you will come across bumps in the road but if you use this forum to explore you will find that others too have experienced what you are feeling. You are not alone ☺

Hi Tracy,
Most of us get the pounding heartbeat occasionally, and skipping beats evidently isn't uncommon. I had more skipped beats BEFORE my surgery, and they're about gone now (4 months post op).
I was given Lasix in the hospital when I left, but nothing since. Some folks retain water, I gained 15 lbs in the hospital, all water weight, and lost it within a week after discharge.
Good luck to you! Quite a journey we're all on.....
