I'm so happy to say it's my 1st year Anniversary with my new porcine mitral valve and a repaired tricuspid valve! So many thanks to our online family here with our patriarch Adam leading the way. Needless to say how scary these surgeries are but here I am, one year after and enjoying all of life and I feel reverent today. Reverence for my surgeon Dr. Gillinov and cardiologist, Dr. Xu both at Cleveland Clinic along with the outstanding nursing staff there. I'll return in May for my one year exam, (one year after my post surgery three month exam.) I'll post again after that visit and I feel confident that the tests will reveal just how well my freshened heart has adapted. It's a happy heart now for sure. "Trust the journey." Love!

Robert Miller Another happy Dr. Gillinov patient. I was contemplating flying out there but decided for Dr. Castro for my second surgery (just a half our drive for me, but that wasn't my main decision). He is excellent!
Your scar is almost gone. May I ask why you decided on a porcine valve instead of a bovine valve?

Louise Moore Hi Robert, yes, I'm another happy Dr. Gillinov patient. Mitral valve repairs/replacements are so specialized and worrisome so I sought out top surgeons and chose him. I believe bovine valves are more frequently used for Aortic replacement, which I may have to do later and I'd have a bovine one then.
For my mitral, it was a choice between porcine or mechanical. Oh, and my scar is very faint now on the top half but is more apparent as it goes down and the bottom 1/3rd is still like a raised worm. My cardio rehab nurse said to rub Vitamin E oil on it, press on it hard, making small circles so I did that every other day for a while after daily showering. I do it at least once a week now and use Aveeno after daily showers. I think it has helped! Interesting that you mentioned it because every doctor I've seen since surgery also mentioned it saying things like "It's so clean" "impressive cut".... things like that... who knew?
Louise Moore Robert M, best of luck in your recovery and Robert Y, Thank You, yes, it's a celebration!

Robert Miller I am curious why for your mitral valve it was between mechanical and porcine. I was told I could also have a bovine valve, which supposedly tends to last longer compared to a porcine valve.
Regarding the scar, my lower 1/2 shows significantly more than my upper 1/2 (which is almost gone after a bit more than 2 months). I was also told that vitamin E helps but I just use Aveeno (have been using it for MANY years long before my first surgery).

Now, here's a guitar with heart! My brother made this to benefit ThScience Mill, a STEM based museum in Johnson City, TX. The fundraiser event takes place Oct. 22nd. He has made guitars for various non-profits but how cool is this!

Louise Moore It's a fully functional guitar and the model of the heart comes apart to reveal the internal anatomy, red and blue (honoring arteries and veins) decorate the stethoscope chest pieces which serve as knobs for volume and tone. A functioning oximeter can take the players pulse, connect with an attached metronome so the beat of the music can be synchronized to the player's own heart rate!
Richard Munson Between the heart and the guitar, the beat goes on.
Ana Brusso Really cool. Hope you raise a lot of funds.

Louise Moore Thanks, Ed, Cheryl, Richard and Ana! I thought it was great that of all science correlations to craft a guitar, he thought of our hearts. He took it seriously playing to the beat of melding science, art and music!
Rose Madura Very ingenious. God gave someone an imagination to create beautiful guitars. Wow! So cool.

Hopewell Rocks, New Brunswick, Canada. Photo taken from street level platform. This goes with my other post today. I didn't realize only one photo per post or I didn't know how to add the second photo. Bill and I then went down the many, many steps to walk on the beach at low tide. Yes, I went up all the same steps - taking my time- after our walk on the beach. Six months post surgery and feeling great!

Six months post surgery, celebrating by taking an epic road trip from Florida to Nova Scotia! Feeling fine and taking my time 🎶. Photos are from The Hopewell Rocks at the Bay of Fundy - New Brunswick side. Walking on the beach at low tide, see if you can see the high tide mark on the rocks behind my husband, Bill and I. High tide was 46.5' this day. Huge amount of stairs to climb so I took my time, taking a moment on each platform, not letting my HR go beyond 110 ( just my own comfort level being far from home.) Had a wonderful time, took the scenic route everywhere we could and stopped in NYC to spend a little time with family and friends as well. You wouldn't know I had Mitral valve replacement and Tricuspid repair six months ago. I hope this gives those awaiting surgery a vision of how soon it will be to live your life with joy, not anxiety, again! Trust me, it will be!
Rose Madura Congratulations! You look pretty good!
Six months and looking great, beautiful picture. Be well and continued good health. God bless you

Louise Moore Hi Janelle, great to hear from you and yes how about that! both from Jax and will be recovering there as well after surgery in the Midwest. We're still undecided if we'll fly or drive but heavily leaning on renting a 4-Wheel drive SUV to minimize contact with others. We booked an airB&B the first few days we're there because the NBA All Star game happens to be in Cleveland Feb. 18-20th and there is not a single hotel room available until the 21st! I'll be admitted on the 18th. I'm feeling very well but I'm not pushing it too much either. I ride a stationary bike and use 5LB. weights for exercise and am trying to be in the best shape I can pre-surgery. Of course it's been very stressful worrying about the surgery. How are you doing?

Janelle Hurst Glad you were able to find an AirB&B! We decided to fly but we'll be wearing N-95's...getting a little more nervous about COVID since it's ramping up again, but trying to minimize contact with others from now until surgery. I'm doing ok, just feel very tired most days, and work is exhausting...not sure if it's just stress or because of heart stuff, probably a combination. I got engaged last week, so that was super exciting! So thankful for the support of my fiance through this whole ordeal.
