2 days shy of 6 months post AVR! Had to make a last minute cardiologist appointment this morning due to severe chest pain. Echo shows pericardial tamponade..fluid constricting the heart. Sounds like they will have to drain it.

Rose Madura I had fluid buildup around the heart at about 3 weeks after OHS. I had another surgery to drain the fluid. They drained about a litre of fluid. Plus they did a pericardial window which helped. God bless you. I'm glad they have it figured out. Please keep us posted.

William Fults Thanks everyone, I’m feeling good, and I’ll be on my way to Michigan tomorrow. Dan, I’m thrilled I was able to get that valve, let’s hope it lasts as long as the pros think it should! Herb, I’ve had a great experience down here! It’s a smooth valve replacing machine. Dr. Svensson is clearly a very capable doctor, but he is a man of very few words. So have your questions ready for him!

Herb Greenberg Hi William, thanks for the advice. Based on all I have seen/read I figured he was not the life of the party. As long as he gets the job done WELL I'll take skill over personality. Reminds me of these stories about this famous brain surgeon in San Francisco. He was not known as a particularly nice guy – I think the stories used to say he had zero personality – but was without question the go-to guy for the tough cases and was legendary. Not that it wouldn't be nice to have some personality, as well. I'm intrigued that he decided not to fix your aneurysm. (I'm not going to escape that one, I can assure you of that!) Charge on...
