About Me (In My Own Words)
I'm here to learn, share, and offer support to others contending with heart valve disease and impending surgery. I was born with an enlarged heart and mitral valve prolapse; regurgitation has always been severe. It was diagnosed during my first echo back in 1993.
I would describe myself as a health and fitness (cardio) junkie. My echocardiograms for the past 25 years have virtually been unchanged so I was able to adopt a watch and wait approach. I have never had any symptoms.
The results of my most recent echo last December 2018 included ejection fraction of 81% and left ventricle systolic dimension of 3.28. However, the pulmonary pressure was 57 mmHg. which is considered moderate pulmonary hypertension, which I understand is a class IIa indication for surgery. My cardiology is broaching the idea of preventive MVR as opposed to the watch and wait approach I have been following.
