About Me (In My Own Words)
My story starts with me still working as a Library Manager at the age of 71 and not having a day of sick since January 2019 plus commuting by bus and tube train each day to work for 2 and a half hours. One day my partner noticed that my neck pulse seemed a little faster than usual - I thought nothing of it as I was a 'Duracell battery' man and I never got sick except for breaking my wrists at the age of 10! However, I went for my annual doctor's check up (after missing it due to Coiid for a couple of years) and was found to have slightly raised blood pressure. On being made to wear a blood pressure meter for 24 hours, II told the pharmacist I was also experiencing strange fluttering or tiny movements is all I can call them. in my chest on the heart side even though she said my heart beat was normal, nothing to be worried about. However, I was then sent for an E.C.G. where a slight 'murmur' was detected. Followed by an Ecogram. I still remember the moment the operator said yes, looks like a leaking heart valve with a swollen heart muscle best you can do is go to Emergency Dot. or wait to be seen by a Consultant - I chose the later keen not to miss my work by being held up waiting in the Emergency Dept. - how strange we are to ourselves hey! The rest is history, a consultation with a Consultant or two who said my aortic vale was too large for key-hole surgery or TAVI and that a chest job was the only option - I am still waiting for that option to happen and learning heaps from great sites like this.
