About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis in January 2018 after a routine physical. I've been primarily asymptomatic these past two years, under the close watch of my cardiologist. Until recently, my key markers were pretty static with little change. Latest Echo suggested an increased mean and peak gradient, signaling surgery is imminent, though nothing scheduled yet.
I just recently joined the HeartValveSurgery community. The willingness of folks to share their stories and experiences has been encouraging as I run the gambit of dread, anxiety, depression and the occasional calm acceptance. It is generally less about the surgical aspect - that seems fairly tangible, but more about the unknown... what is the best option for me?...how will I feel?... can I return to doing the active things I enjoy?...should I spend my retirement nest egg sooner rather than later :) ? I haven't' fully landed on the final replacement option yet. The team at Cleveland Clinic has been helpful in my understanding the pro's & cons of mechanical and bioprosthetic valves. The Ozaki procedure also just hit my radar. Still some time to do more research~ though there is a lot of (and sometimes conflicting) information out there.
Net - I would just like to thank in advance those who read my story for your kind words of encouragement and shared insight behind your experiences. From what I have seen so far, it truly is a caring, supportive community. Best wishes to all for good health in 2021.
