About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with an Aortic Aneurysm without rupture in 2015, it was only 3.9 in size, unfortunately with every year past it grew, until in 2023 it went from 4.6 to 5.1 in 6 months. I researched doctors and with advice from a family doctor I hooked up with Dr Johnston. He was kind and listened but I could tell he was straight to the point. My Aortic Root was 5.1 at the Sinus, he said we could wait but at this point he felt I was a good candidate for Valve Sparing Aortic Root Replacement, which made saving my valve. I also discovered that this problem runs in my family. My poor cousin died from this on her way to the operating table, scared as I was I felt there was no choice, On August 4th I went in for my 5 hour surgery, Doctor Johnston replaced 4 inches of my Aorta and which included my Root and Ascending Aorta, repaired my Aortic Valve and attached the Dacron Graft into my Arch. Quite a process. I didn’t really think about this before hand but after reviewing all of this I discovered how skilled you really have to be to perform such an operation so my lifetime thanks go to Doctor Johnston and his entire team . I also found the nurses at Nortwestern Hospital to be the highest form of humanity. Again I am thankful. One issue I am concerned with but have been reassured to not worry about is unfortunately my pacer wires were left in because of resistance trying to get them out, they concluded it was safer to leave them in. Anyone else experience this? And any issues afterwards? Besides that I’m in my 6 week of recovery and it’s been a process, I have my good days and bad, but I am moving forward. And as most I am going to try and make the best of what I have got left
