About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with an ascending aortic aneurysm in 2013 while doing a Ct scan to look at my coronary arteries. I joined a group of patients who were observed by Dr Gabriele Dilouozzo. Over the next 9 years I have had an annual CT scan to see if the aneurysm had changed. Although no change in the aneurysm my aortic valve went from mild to moderate to severe regurgitation. In the last months I’ve met with a surgeon in Florida, Dr Kevin Accola and Dr El-Hamamsy in NYC. Both are very good surgeons, but I developed a relationship with Dr Halperin at Mount Sinai and after Dr DiLuozzo moved to Bridgeport Ct. Dr Haperin referred me to Dr. El-Hamamsy. We had our initial meeting and I felt very comfortable with him. My family is also in NJ which will give my wife support. Personally, I’ve been a competitive cyclist and speed skater most of my life. Although I stopped speed skating when I moved to Florida I continue to cycle almost every day. I don’t compete anymore but still ride 200-250 miles a week. At this time, I don’t have any symptoms that I’m aware of but I look forward to putting this all behind me. I may need a bypass as well but won’t know that until they do the cath. I’m nervous but know it needs to be done to maintain my quality of life. I’m 72 and very active.
