About Me (In My Own Words)
I’ve known I have MVP since I was 15. I’m 57 now! Everything has been status quo, watch and wait, echos every 3-5 years until this summer. Chest pain bumped up my echo by a year to 9/1 and wow, regurgitation is now severe and p2 is flail. So, here I am, two weeks out from surgery at University of Wisconsin Hospital with Dr. Osaki, who is wonderful. I’m scared but ready to get on with it so I can start feeling better!!!
Here’s an update: my surgery was back on 12/23/22. My valve was such a mess it could not be repaired. So, I got a mechanical valve. My recovery in the hospital was up and down with several episodes of A fib and also needing a blood transfusion. I got home a week later but was back in the next day because I was retaining urine and having delirium. CT scan revealed infection and I spent several days on IV antibiotics before switching to oral and going home again. 13 days total in hospital!! Doing much better now, four weeks out. No more A fib, no signs of infection. Had follow up with surgeon last week and everything checked out! Sore but that is to be expected. Looking forward to starting cardiac rehab next week!
