About Me (In My Own Words)
This is not my story; it’s my husband's story, though I feel it as my own. Last year, after returning from a vacation to celebrate our second wedding anniversary, I had to rush my husband to the hospital due to a persistent high fever. His body shook with chills, and nothing seemed to help, and after days of uncertainty, we finally got a diagnosis: endocarditis. The infection had damaged his mitral valve, and he needed emergency open-heart surgery.
On October 12, 2023, at the Shaio Clinic in Bogotá, Colombia, he underwent surgery. It was the most terrifying moment of my life. The idea that someone so young and full of life could be facing such a serious procedure felt impossible to grasp. But the surgery was a complete success. The medical team was incredible, and my husband came out stronger than ever.
Today, he’s not just recovering—he’s thriving. He’s returned to work, exercises regularly, and has embraced life with a renewed energy. The limitations we once feared haven’t held him back. He’s healthy, active, and we are both so hopeful for the future. What once felt uncertain now feels full of possibility. Every day feels like a gift, and we’re more grateful than ever for the simple things we used to take for granted.
This experience has shown me how strong we are, and how even in the darkest times, things can turn around. To those who are facing surgery or caring for someone who is, I want to tell you: there is so much hope. My husband is living proof that recovery is possible, and that life after such a challenge can be full and beautiful. Stay positive, stay strong, and believe that everything will be okay.
