In 2018 at age 53, my Primary Care Physician noticed a murmur in my heart that he thought should be checked out. An ultrasound revealed moderate aortic stenosis which would need to be monitored every one to two years to know when/if it progressed to severe.
In April 2023, I began to have bouts of Afib. The subsequent ultrasound confirmed "severe" status of calcification of the aortic valve. It also confirmed that I have a bicuspid valve.
I had the valve replaced on September 6, 2023 (full sternotomy).
