About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with a bicuspid aortic valve when i was about 12yrs old after seeing multiple doctors to find out that it has been there since birth.
I am now 33, i was pregnant in 2013 and all was well.
Last year my cardiologist said that my aortic regurgitation was becoming severe and i would have to get a replacement. I was also told by my endocrinologist that it was time to discuss a treatment for my Grave's disease (Hyperthyroid) being on medication for over 2 years and finally my levels are normal. I was very stressed due to being a new and full time stay at home mom. I opted on surgical removal of my thyroid because i refuse to treat it with radioactive iodine (who really wants any radioactive substance in their bodies?)
Anyway , my thyroid surgeon wasnt thrilled with my heart issue.
I am now seeking a second opinion on my valve,(and seekigg a new endocrinologist as well) and looking into a less invasive surgical procedure, i am having nightmares about the surgery,my stay in the hospital and leaving my 2 yr old.
I will be seeking an appointment at mount sinai in ny very soon.
I have found this site to be very informative and helping a bit to de-stress :-)
