About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with a condition called Marfan's syndrome when I was small, Marfan's has a long list of health complications but the most significant complication and risks are to do with the aortic root, valves, eyesight... At just 32 I was told that my aortic root was at high risk of ripping (instantly causing death) I had scans done all my life to keep tabs on it. *I have always pushed my physical limits to find what I'm capable of regardless of being told not to, as i felt i had to proove i could be normal. recently within the last few years, I started to experience randomized sharp chest pain and decreasing energy I knew I was pushing the body I have too far... finally at the age of 33 just around my birthday I got a call at short notice to book me in the next day for a 6-8 hour surgery to repair the root and replace my bicuspid valve that was struggling to keep up.... I postponed due to some financial fears, recovery fears and just trying to insure my family would be around to be with me for better or worse... I was given another opportunity to take the surgery so I did.. Nov 9 2022 I got a new chance at life... I have a long road to recovery though.. I'm still scared about my future but with proper motivation and support I should be fine... Thank you St Boniface hospital and your cardiac science teams who are some of the best at what they do.....
