About Me (In My Own Words)
Approximately two weeks ago I was channel surfing and stopped at The Dr. Oz Show. Barbara Streisand was the guest and the topic was "Women and heart disease". I watched the full segment and went about my day. That night at approximately 2:00 a.m. I woke up with a pain in my chest. Since it felt like gas, I took 2 tums, drank some water and came back to bed. Needless to say, because of the Dr. Oz show that I watched the previous day, I called my cardiologist and made an appointment for that same day. Two days later, I was scheduled for a stress test. After having an echocardiogram the doctor gave me the diagnosis and said that I will not be going on the treadmill to complete the stress test. December 12, 2014 will be a day that I will never forget. Once I received the news from my doctor that I needed valve replacement my whole world was spinning out of control. The following week I went to see Dr. Allen Stewart, he explained what I have, the procedure and recovery. Once I spoke to the doctor and his secretary who ironically also had valve replacement surgery approximately 10 years ago, my nerves were not as out of control as they had been since I initially received the news. My surgery is scheduled for Monday, 1/5/2014 and I'm scared! However, my trust in God and a lot of prayer is helping me through this as well as knowing that Dr. Stewart and his amazing surgical staff are experts in this surgery.
