About Me (In My Own Words)
I was born with a congenital heart defect and received my first operation when I was 7 years old to correct coarctation of the aorta (CoA). At 15 years old, I received the Ross Procedure to correct Aortic Stenosis. During this procedure I had both my aortic and pulmonary valves replaced. I've had multiple outpatient procedures, such as cardiac catheterizations and TEE tests along the way. I received both of my childhood surgeries from the amazing staff at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
On June 30, 2015 (age 33) I had an AVR done at the Cleveland Clinic by Lars Svensson. I had a mechanical St. Jude's valve put in. Next step for me may be a Melody Transcatheter Pulmonary Valve.
For me, the journey with heart disease has taught me so much and afforded me opportunities that have positively impacted my life. I wish everyone well in their own journeys and will be glad to assist in any way that I can.
