About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with a mitral valve flail with moderate to severe regurgitation in early February 2022. It was truly divine intervention as it was a gastroenterologist, who I was seeing to schedule a colonoscopy in late January, that listened to my heart and alerted me to a problem. I am not symptomatic, so truly feel blessed that this doctor found the problem.
I have since found an interventional cardiologist who I love and have great confidence in (didn’t like first cardiologist). I have had my TEE, Heart Catherization and met with the surgeon. My husband and I are really impressed with Dr. Lucian Lozonschi at Tampa General. He answered all our questions, asked us lots of questions and never made us feel rushed. He even suggested I take part in a Mindfulness program at the hospital as they see positive and quicker recovery from heart patients who learn to manage their stress and anxiety going into heart surgery. We were also very excited that Dr Lozonschi recommends minimally invasive robotic surgery for my valve repair. This is a game changer for me as I have Spina Bifida and ambulate and use my upper body for all activities of daily living. I kayak, swim and bike ride with a hand cycle. To keep my sternum in tact is a true blessing!! I have seen God’s hand throughout my journey to date. The right doctors, timing, and procedures that went smoothly. I was hoping for a May surgery date, but due to scheduling challenges (allergy protocols) with the CT it’s looking more like July. I am living in peace and confidence that God’s timing is perfect. More to come.
