About Me (In My Own Words)
bentall procedure done. operation took 9hrs. Not 5hrs.Born with a Bicuspid aortic valve. Problems started occur when i was skiing. blood regurgitation. A couple years before operation. Then a year later massive vertigo attack driving. Highway became a 1/2 circle in my eyes not flat. went to hospital was examined and released. Next day saw my cardiologist (known for at least 5 yrs. now) decided to go with a camera thru my body to the heart. was put to sleep for that. when i woke up i now had 2 doctors above me saying that i'm not going anywhere as i had an aneurysm of over 5cm. this is what i said. i'll see you next week as i got to take care of one of my customers. need to finish her job.(I'm a bathroom remodeling Contractor.) .they looked at me and thought i was crazy. So the day before i went in I went to the gym worked out real hard at this time what do i have to lose. Went to my father's grave site. Said to him Dad i'll see you tomorrow or wish me luck. Then went home sat on the lawn with my wife and dogs and had a beer. That morning I don't remember saying goodbye to my wife or children before i went in for the operation. I'm sure i cried and her i'm only human. Once i got to the room where they where going to put me to sleep i said to the anesthesiologist i want to see how long i can count before i pass out. Never got to 1. Woke up later it was all done. Definitely drugged up. Then the complications occurred. i developed compartment syndrome in my right hand (my dominant Hand). Then my hand grew to the size of a softball by the late night .i was on so much morphine i thought it is cool. That's what drugs will do to you. Was brought down to the operating room for a Fascomity. I took 6 left open incisions in the hand needed to drain. Left the hospital 7 days later. Now that all was a piece of cake. I developed Pump Head A term used for basically not a good thing to get. At that time all doctors said they learned about it in med school but that is all.
There is a medical term for pump head syndrome. But it is easier to google this word in. So what happens is your personality and memory will never be the same. It doesn't happen to everyone. But lucky me i got it. (should of played the lottery that day). This problem with me didn't come out to much in articles until Bill Clinton's Madness story was published. (google it) Now as years have passed it seems like every retired doctor is on youtube talking about it. My Opinion Their job now isn't in jeopardy anymore. You get it from your heart being stopped plus being on a bypass machine. Remember i was out for 9 hours. Doctors to this day may try to do their research say no some say yes. Unless they have it well that is only opinion or study given them that opinion. Basically you gotta have it to appreciate it. (that's a joke).
You don't want it trust me. Your short term memory goes away. This problem is no doctor out there can't determine how far back short term memory goes back to. Now it's a personality change. I call it the Dr. Jekyll Mr. Hyde Syndrome. (I need to patten this word for the medical field). Or call it the black & white Syndrome. In conclusion I'm a very funny guy great sense of humor still am to this day, But one thing i'm not is a fool. You do get this not everyone. You try to deal with it i can maybe not everyone. So if i can help anyone out there talk to me as i have pretty close all the info you need about the Pump head syndrome. This is why the medical field is trying to find a better procedure then using the heart lung machine. Oh i forgot i love the ticking sound of the mechanical valve. It's like a clock if i don't hear it clicking anymore well i don't really care what time it is. My doctor says to me lets hope if it stops it is in the open position i thought that was funny. So let me know if i can help anyone. Mark my email 4160mark@gmail.com (that is how much i would like to help people go through this.
