About Me (In My Own Words)
Forgive me for not up-dating my profile, but I have read and appreciated many of your posts over these pst several weeks.
Here's whats new...
I am one-week and one-day post-surgery. I completed my Aortic Valve Replacement, via a Thoracotomy procedure that went very well. The surgery was only about three hours long. Within hours after being moved into ICU they even had me up in a chair for a while. The next morning there was even more to do, a light breakfast and up for a short walk around the ICU department. My surgeon, Dr. Doolabh, stopped by and gave me an update and some encouragement about the timing of my procedure. He said "you couldn't have timed this better" meaning that my severe leaking aortic valve had not yet affected the health of my heart. I do like fixing things when I want too, not when I have too, so this was very good news to me on the decisions my wife and I made to get to this point. There was a lot of back and forth on how soon or even if this surgery was needed yet, but I am now glade we did this now.
I was only in the hospital for three days. My breathing feels more refreshing. My energy level is higher. All seems to be moving in the right direction. I am looking forward to cardio-rehab coming up in a few weeks, and to enjoy a normal life again soon.
Take care all.
