I live on 10+ hilly acres near Weaverville, NC and noticed I was getting more out of breath just doing normal things that used to not be a problem. At first I just chalked it up to being out of shape over the winter but it didn't get better. Saw my PCP about my gradually increasing blood pressure and a stress test was suggested. The day of the test, they wouldn't even let me do the exercise part saying the cardiologist would call to set up an appointment ASAP. From me thinking something's wrong to surgery was about 8 weeks.
