Had an aortic valve replaced in January 2017, all went great. I tripped and fell in June 2017 and broke my arm. Depression has set in, as much as I try to stay positive, thoughts creep in and the heart starts to race. I do have a few heart problems but nothing critical. Just can't seem to get myself back to a positive attitude, Has anyone else felt this way so long after heart surgery, not sure if it was the heart surgery or broken arm, or the thoughts. I need to focus on what I can do instead of what I cannot. thoughts, or hints would be so much appreciated.

Jane Neulieb Betty, It is great to reach out so we can support one another. I know that your doctor can help with this. Modern medicine has the tools to treat the depression so that you don't have to suffer. Call your physician or nurse practitioner so they can help. You have been through so much this past year and our bodies respond to that stress in many ways and one is depression. Do not suffer in silence, it is treatable and pretty easily by the way. Let us know how you are doing!! Hugs

Betty Frydrychowicz Thanks for the kind words. I have been thinking along the same lines, I am searching for a support group in the local area and will request an appointment with the PA. Just tough to admit I need some help, it's been a tough year, but many positives also, just have to remember the good things outweigh the bad. Your message has helped me see that it's okay to ask for help. Thanks again!

Cathy Zuber Betty, I agree with Julie!! Yes, it's tough to say " I need help"". Society has placed soooo much stigma on depression, etc. if you thought you had diabetes, asthma, etc..you'd ask for help in no time!! And yes, our bodies and minds have sure walked a tough road. I'm 7 months out from mitral valve replacement, and I have a mentally disabled daughter. I KNOW that I can stay focused because I take a small dose of an antidepressant every day!! Hugs..Cathy

Rita Savelis This very very common, even if not talked about enough. I feel for you, you have been through a lot, too much, and are now processing it. I really recommend being vocal about it with doctors and finding a therapist who can listen, and taking meds if it helps and just being kind to yourself during this difficult time. It doesn't matter what the exact trigger was, you are now suffering, it's common, and I am sorry you have to go through this.

Betty Frydrychowicz Thanks everyone, feeling SO much better today. My A-Fib and the medicine is more than likely the culprit for feeling so low. I have been so blessed in my life with good health, now that it is a little shaky, tough to adjust. But I have an incredible family, great doctors, and a very supportive husband, plus a new aortic valve. What more could I ask for. Lets keep supporting one another. Thanks and God Bless.
