I chose my surgeon yesterday Dr. Steven Harrington out of Henry Ford in Clinton Township Michigan. I will be getting a mini sternotomy with a bovine valve. Should have my surgery within the next two weeks. Also started my short term disability need to concentrate on myself.

day 2 after finding out that I would need my bi cuspid aortic valve replaced .started to work from home and my boss wants me to travel out of state and meet with our new owners. I LITERALLY GAVE MY HEART TO THIS BUSINESS AND FOR WHAT. I always thought hard work would give me security and it only brought me more stress and now less security for my family. Tough day looking at pictures. I need to focus on me

Terrie Syvertsen John, It is one thing to get a diagnosis that you need a valve replaced, another to begin a working at home and than have your work situation change. I do know what your feel like. After learning that my valve was getting to the point of needing surgery I was living up North in California. On the way home from work one day from the Bay area, my husbands boss called to tell him he had bought another company up north near where w lived and that he didn't have a job in the bay area BUT
if he would run the one up north at a large pay cut he would keep him. The owner was a friend. Worked for over 17 years for him. Long story short......Had a rough time for a few years but came out on top because we had each other and the strength not to let it ruin our world. You are in a place of uncertainty and your most important thoughts are maintaining work and a secure place for you and your Family. I would like to tell you that things will turn around to make sense and get back on track and coming to this site to communicate your feelings was a good thing for you. There are many people, many men and women who no doubt will take hold of your post and begin to give you support regarding both your job and recent diagnosis. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Your thoughts about this heart valve surgery in your future and your job are a huge stress and that isn't something you want, of course.
John, it sounds like all of the hard work you have done in the past will pay off in your future. Don't know whether the new owners are even keeping your current boss?????Don't know if you can make the trip to meet them and continue to work from home when you get back? I'd like to say that I believe that people who work hard and face "surprises "like you have been thrown are strong enough to make things happen but first you have to work on backing down the stress level and giving yourself time to absorb what is happening both with work and your heart but give yourself and your wife and family a chance to work with you while you figure out the work situation. I am sorry that you are dealing with two such issues but betting it will make more sense soon and your wife and family will be able to move forward soon to get the job situation and the Heart Surgery to a place where it all comes together they area manageable and you will THRIVE!!!! Hope this
makes sense. Just came back from a 7 mile bike ride.
I am by the way 66yrs. old in May, had Heart Valve
surgery to replace my Bicuspid Aortic Valve 8 months ago. YOU CAN DO THIS JOHN ...YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WILL COME OUT AHEAD............I will be watching for your posts to the community here and if I know our
people, Your new Heart Brothers and Heart Sisters will be here for you and your Wife and Family to help get you through all of this. Take care.
