I have both rheumatic mitral and aortic stenosis. I also have occasional AFib. I know I will have to have both valves replaced and a Cox Maze procedure at some point. My question is, when looking for success stories of people who have had a similar experience, I'm not finding any. Is there anyone out there that has traveled down my road and would share their story? I need some encouragement.

Rose Madura I didn't have your exact diagnosis but had an aortic valve replacement, an ascending aorta and arch repair done about 4.5 years ago. I had bouts of afib or Aflutter for about 6 weeks afterwards with other complications. Bottom line is that once I got through them, I feel great and you will too. It's no picnic in the park but we heart warriors are a tough bunch. Be encouraged because the odds are in your favor. Trust your doctors and for me, most importantly, I trusted God to give me the strength I needed. You can do this!

Brody Sheffer I also have rheumatic mitral stenosis and AFib. I will be having a valve replacement and maze procedure done at the end of the month. I can certainly let you know how it goes even though your procedure will be more involved given you are having both valves replaced. As Rose said, remembering that the odds are in your favor has been helpful and also focusing on how much better you will feel after you are fully recovered can help to keep your spirits up.

Kecia Ferguson @Rose and @Brody, thank you so much for sharing. It is very encouraging to know I am not alone. My thoughts and prayers will be with you as you prepare for your surgery, Brody. Thank you Rose for your insight. That is wonderful news that you are doing so well. I, too, rely on my faith for comfort and peace.
I am not at the point where I am preparing for surgery, but I know the day will come. I am thankful for this site.
