Hello yesterday I met with my surgeon 6 week mark who performed AVR on my bicuspid valve Operation went well but he told me in 10 to 15 years I will need my aorta replaced due to damage caused by my bicuspid valve I’m terrified of further surgery as this last operation really was very difficult to go thru and still feeling not great I told him no more surgery Has anyone else got any experience with my situation

Marie Myers I am guessing your aortic aneurysm was not “ large enough” to fix at the time of surgery. It is possible that the aneurysm may not grow now that the valve is fixed and the blood flow is normalized. I hope that this is the case, and I hope you never need it done. I would ask the surgeon for clarification on this issue. I totally understand not wanting to hear about another possible surgery while still recovering from the first one!

Luke Rodriguez My surgeon went ahead and replaced part of my aorta when he replaced the valve for the exact reason you stated, that 10 to 15 years it would have to be replaced so why not do it all at once. The valve and partial aorta was all one piece and I have been told the part will last longer than I will. I sucks to face the prospect of another surgery and recovery. Very sorry to hear that.
