I am 56 with a Bicuspid Aortic Valve and an Ascending Aortic Aneurysm of 4.9cm, and I need surgery. I would like to know people's opinions on the best surgeons. I live in the Denver area, but willing to travel to find the best surgeon and hospital.

Carolyn Newell Hi Nate, I would check with your insurance company first and make sure you are covered in other areas. I was told by my cardiologist that it's better to recover in your own bed and not a hotel bed but to each is own. I guess I liked the reassurance of knowing that if anything went wrong when I got home I was close to my surgeon and hospital. I did a ton of research and went to see (interview) three surgeons before I made my decision. Ended up going with the one who had the most experience in the end. All the best to you.

I was surprised to find that if I went over 100 miles away, the cost would have been substantially more. Not to add stress to an already stressful situation, but sometimes knowing what will or will not be covered ahead of time can be a big help.
