Douglas Merten My cardiologist called Dr. Castro, the king of the mitral valves for this area. I’m having mitral valve surgery this coming Tuesday the seventh with Dr. Woo at Stanford. I ended up with Dr. Woo because he repaired one of my relatives mitral valve two years ago. He seemed very confident when I met with him but he seems strictly the highly skilled expert that comes in and does the work and leaves the personal relationships to his team. The videos I saw of Dr. Castro he seems to be intimately involved with each of his patients.

J Alexander Lassally Hi Robert - Stanford worth a consult. His staff are really good and you will learn a lot. (Free consult for out of towners.) I, personally, quickly moved on. That said, some folks on here are very happy with him. People seem to like Castro.

J Alexander Lassally PS Robert - Don't forget there is a newer robotic center at Davis/Sacramento, and then there are three storied centers in greater LA, Shemin at UCLA (robotic), Starnes at USC Keck and Chikwe at Cedars. All notable. As an out of stater, Cedars was very unresponsive and refused to even look at my case. I did not approach Keck or UCLA so no experience there.
Marcus Krauss I had Dr. Woo for my Ross procedure in October. He's very good.

Robert Miller I got my first surgery from Dr. Gaudiani who has a chip on his shoulder and put his legs on the table when I was a consulting with him. For my second surgery, I also talked to Dr. Woo at Stanford. It took me just a couple of minutes to know he is not the right surgeon. My BIL is also a surgeon and talked to him and he had the same impression. I ended up getting my second surgery with Dr. Castro. He is amazing not just with his skills but also how he and his staff takes care of you. Btw, I don't get any money or any other incentives to promote Dr. Castro. Your experience might be different but I really like him.
