Hello Al. My name Is Terrie and I am 65 yrs. old and had my valve replaced on Aug. 20th. You appear to be a younger fellow and I would like to tell you that the surgery to replace your valve will make your life so much better. I understand you had a defect since early in your life and I suppose it will be good to know that it is taken care of and the worrying will be set aside for recovering and seeing how different living with a mended heart can be. I wish you the very best and know there is nothing that will happen that you can't handle and the recovery time is going by quickly already for me so I would imagine it will be even better for you! Be good to yourself and have patience so that your can mend well and move forward with your life. I had a full sternotomy and the pain level going home on the 25th. I was able to go home and continue on until today with extra strength Tylenol. So know that it sounds worse than it really is an the hospital staff will be on top of your every need so that nothing is going on you can't handle. You will surprise yourself at how quickly you are up and moving around the hospital and that much closer to going home! You take care and Be well. Prayers and good thoughts from the Universe will go with you from your community of heart brothers and sisters now and on the day of surgery! Many people here will answer any of your questions as many have gone and come through where you are headed! Terrie from Calif.
