Annette Sterzel Carolyn do you have a date for your surgery yet? What do you need done. I had a similar situation although I went to see cardiologist every year I never gave it a thought until one day I woke up with afib. In hospital for 5 days and put on blood thinners. 8 months later ohs. Doing well so far. Best of luck!

Carolyn Maso Hello Grace and Annette... my surgery was delayed and haven't re-scheduled. I'm considering leaving Kaiser and choosing a Dr. who has done more of my surgeries. I feel fine and on heart meds ... mostly asymptomatic but one never knows when that can change. I hope to have the surgery by the end of May. Annette, what is ohs? Grace, your procedure/s? Thank you both for reaching out. It's a very strange time and when I stop to think about it, scary... as well. I know attitude is everything in life and staying busy w/friends/family is crucial to navigate this

Richard Munson This was very interesting as i had the maze procedure. Very timely as i meet with my cardiologist next month to discuss this very subject of reducing some meds based on the maze 2 years ago. Apparently no a fib since. I think many take the overly conservative , what if, approach. Safer to keep the patient on the stuff . I little CYA perhaps.

Carolyn Maso Are there no Kaiser Dr's on this site? I'm with Kaiser but I seldom see reviews anywhere and I'm a review junkie! It helps so much to read the opinions.

Carolyn Maso Hello Richard, I hope I don't have to stay on meds the rest of my life. I read that minimal invasive for my procedure is in trials right now and only given to those who can't go through open heart surgery. The results have been good so far. Of course, I'm wondering whether to wait (which is risky for stroke) or just get it out of the way. So many life decisions at this time, as you know. Reducing meds is the goal. Until this, I was on zero meds. What's CYA?
